Natural Born Leader

The Diagnostic

What’s standing between you and the leader you know you were born to be?

You didn't get into leadership to feel like shit every day.

To spend Sunday evenings with that knot in your stomach, dreading Monday.

To question your own sanity in meetings where you're the only one who seems to think something's off.

To lie awake wondering if you're being unreasonable, too sensitive, not tough enough.

You got into leadership because you had a fire in your belly. Because you wanted to be brilliant at this. To help your team be the best they can be. To actually shape your industry, not just survive it.

Somewhere along the way, that fire turned into exhaustion.

You've read the leadership books, tried the productivity hacks and communication tools.

Sat through the ‘Female Empowerment and Resilience’ workshop HR organised that you just found wildly unhelpful and patronising.

You’re here, even more exhausted. Questioning your sanity daily, thinking is it really worth leaving my kids for this crap? Maybe I should just leave leadership if this it was it takes because there is no bloody way I can keep doing it like this?

What if the problem was never you?

What if you've been trying to fix yourself to fit conditions that were never designed for women leading the way you actually want to lead?

The Natural Born Leader Diagnostic is a 10-minute tool that helps you see what's actually been happening, inside you and around you, so you can finally stop making yourself the problem and see the exact step you need to take next.

The Natural Born Leader Diagnostic will help you name:

  • What's happening inside you: the beliefs, patterns and protective strategies you've developed that now feel like your personality, but might actually be adaptations you built to survive conditions that never supported the kind of leader you wanted to be.

  • What's happening around you, the unwritten rules, power dynamics and structural expectations you've been navigating (and internalising) without language to name them, so you kept thinking the problem was you

  • The specific place where your internal experience and external conditions are most misaligned, so you can see exactly where the friction is coming from and stop trying to fix the wrong thing

  • What to do about it, the immediate next step that makes sense for your specific situation, so this isn't just insight you nod at and scroll past. It helps you take action.

Hi, I’m Helen

I grew up in a mining village in Yorkshire on the road that literally split the village in two. Council estate on one side. Owner-occupiers on the other. I didn’t need anyone to explain inequality to me, I could see it. My Dad took me to the miners' strike on his shoulders and I learned early that societal structures shape people’s lives.

I carried that lens into 20 years of social change work, frontline homelessness services, exec-level leadership and systemic change roles because I became increasingly frustrated that the systems meant to support people were often quietly failing them.

Once you learn to see patterns in systems, you start seeing them everywhere. Including leadership.

The more senior I became, the more I watched women adapt themselves to environments that rewarded overwork, emotional detachment and relentless self-sacrifice while calling it professionalism. When women struggled, they got sent on resilience training. The message was clear: fix yourself to survive.

Then I had my second child and was Director of Operations, leading hundreds of staff, with a one-year-old and a four-year-old at home. I asked to condense my hours. They said yes, then quietly punished me for it. I led with empathy in a culture that rewarded command and control. Slowly, I started questioning whether I belonged in leadership at all.

I got therapy, coaching. It helped me survive. Helped me leave that toxic organisation. But I left leadership too, because deep down I believed maybe it just wasn't for me.

The support I was given worked, as long as the problem was me, because it didn't give me the language to name what was actually happening: I was being asked to fix myself to fit a system never designed for me.

That realisation changed everything.

I could see clearly that many of the struggles women internalise as personal failings are often completely understandable responses to the conditions they're navigating.

It changed the the beliefs I had about myself, the way I worked, advocated for myself and supported the women around me.

When I went back to leadership, I did it on my terms. I stopped trying to fit leadership models designed for men with a wife at home and started creating a different way of leading altogether.

One where humans came before performance theatre. Where ambition and empathy could coexist. Where women didn't have to disconnect from themselves to lead well.

I've now helped hundreds of women reclaim their voice, leadership, ambition and self-trust, and realise they were never the problem to fix in the first place. They were the women here to change the game.

The Natural Born Leader Diagnostic is where that work starts, with you seeing clearly, for the first time, which parts are you and which parts are adaptations.
